Before I started writing short stories and books, I was obsessed with writing poems. I would fixate on one word and build my poems around it. Although they were short, I always loved how impactful they felt.
Recently I was cleaning out an old website I used to post on frequently and came across some of my old work. These little words used to mean the world to me and in some way they still do. Below I have included three of my favorites.
The Flower & The Honey Bee
I was a flower and he a honey bee
Coming and going with no regard for me
Getting what he wants and leaving me behind
Out of sight out of mind
Only returning when he can’t find another
A systematic need for one another
Giving my all for nothing In return
Denied the only love I yearn
Knowing this is all we will come to be
The flower and the honey bee
The Moon
You were like the moon, ever changing
Never knowing which phase you were in
The push and pull of your tide was rough
I became swept in the undertow
Drifting
Drowning
With the hope
Of capturing the moon
You & Me
You and me
Will never be
Wrong time; wrong place
A constant need for space
And the memory of you I can’t erase
Playing Like a melody in my head
Are all the words I should have said
